-But, talking about secure borders...

-Sure.

-You voted for the construction of the wall between Mexico and the United States. However, the Mexican Government has just confirmed that every year, at least half a million Mexicans come to the United States. How exactly are you planning to secure that border? Every single minute there is an immigrant coming into the United States illegally.

-I didn't vote for,  I am not sure what you are talking about, but we can secure...

-...about 700 miles.

-I say we can secure our borders with walls and/or fences in urban areas, and then virtual fences, vehicle barriers

-But, you did vote for the wall.

-I didn't vote for an..., I don't know what you are exactly what you are referring to. What my plan was, and what our proposal was, that we secure our borders, and we can secure it, not necessarilly with walls and fences. Although that is important in populated areas, in the deserts of Arizona vehicle barriers, cameras, and sensors, all of those things, can be used. By the way, on the Arizona Border, common practice today, drug dealers send a group of illegals across the border, the drug dealers call cartels, call the border patrol that they round them up and leave and the drugs go behind them. So, don't try to separate that issue, because they are inextricably tied, my friend.

"But second of all, again, a temporary worker program that works with tamper proof biometric documents. So, people can come to this country and work temporarily, and then go home. That, when it's implemented because they can't get a job, otherwise would dry up this flow. And third of all, look, we want to help the Mexican economy and the South American economy. How do you do that? You do that through a free trade, opening our goods, our markets, their goods and services. Senator Obama is against the Colombia Free Trade Agreement. He said that he will unilaterally renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement. You know what the Canadians said to that? They said, Yeah, maybe we sell our oil to China. So, the point is, I'm for free trade and opening these markets, and improving the lives of the people of Mexico and our hemisphere, so they don't  have to come to the United States of America. Senator Obama wants to close those markets, he is against every, literally every free trade agreement.

-Senator, the last time we talk, you told us that it would take a year or two to secure the border, and then you said we can address the other part of it. Would that include massive legalization for millions of undocumented immigrants in this country?

-I think it means that we go through a step by step process of allowing people to apply and achieve citizenship in this country, of course. But, I want to point out again; it's a little more complicated.

-It goes against the platform of your party, by the way, because they are against the legalization of millions of undocumented immigrants.

-My position is very clear, and that was part of our proposal, that I took up twice. By the way, Senator Obama tried to kill it, because he proposed an amendment that would have done away with any temporary worker program. So, there is a huge difference there. So, what we need to do is take the two million according to (Michael) Chertoff, that have broken laws in our country, and deport or imprison them. They are law breakers. Other people who have come here and have been here for a period of time and are law abiding citizens and are willing to go through a certain process, of course, there are not twelve million pairs of handcuffs in America.

"So, we can together, republicans and democrats, work out this issue, provide a path to citizenship, on the principle that they do not take any priority over anyone who came to this country legally, or waited legally. And, of course they should pay a fine, because they acted illegally. But, our heritage, the heritage of this country, is people who have come to this country for a better life, and as I said at the Convention, these are God's children and it will be done in a humane and compassionate fashion.

-Senator Barack Obama told us in an interview that he would present a comprehensive immigration reform to congress during the first year. Could you match that?

-Sure, I would do it in the first day, but I was the one who led, I was the one who led with Senator (Ted) Kennedy, a great political risk to myself. Senator Obama tried to kill it, because he was doing what the unions wanted. The unions in America do not want a temporary worker program, so Senator Obama came to the floor and had an amendment that would have basically killed immigration reform, because it was a fragile coalition between republicans and democrats. So, don't let Senator Obama get away with saying that he supports comprehensive reform, when he tried to kill it.

-Senator, do you think that the position of you party may affect you as a candidate?. The Pew Hispanic Center survey on Latino voters found that only 11 percent believe that you are better than Barack Obama for Hispanics.

-Well, I got a lot of work to do, but I got a record. You know, Senator Obama has never been South of our border. He has never visited a single country in our hemisphere. Look, I got over 70 percent of the Hispanic vote in my home state of Arizona. Hispanic people know me in Arizona. They're going to know me around the country, and they are going to know my advocacy. For comprehensive immigration reform, they are going to know about how I understand border issues, I understand their issues, I am pro-life, they,  the majority of them are pro life. They have small business, my record on small business is very good, and they are very patriotic. A larger percentage of Hispanic citizens serve in the military than any other percentage of America's population.  I am proud. When I go down to the Vietnam War Memorial early in the morning, I am so grateful to see names like Hernandez, Garcia, other names that are Hispanic names on the wall, who have served in sacrifice.
